I recommend this book to everyone, but especially those who have or are planning to read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Of course for many people this will just not be the right sort of book, but i think there are also many people who will love it. You may read the first few lines of this book and think: "Oh, boring", but believe me, it gets better. Tolkien’s imaginative writing, a collection of narratives ranging in time from the Elder Days of Middle-earth, through the Second Age and the rise of Sauron, to the end of the War of the Ring. The Silmarillion starts with the making of Middle Earth and goes on to describe the coming of the peoples of the world (elves,men,dwarves and halflings in that order!) There are some long words and seemingly impossible to pronounce names that I got stuck on, so if you have trouble reading some of them don't worry. Tolkien wrote it after his first Middle Earth book, The Hobbit, and it mainly records the story of the Silmarils (gems of power).

The book consists of five parts which Tolkien wanted to publish together even though they are separate parts.
